"<b>Drug Czar!</b><br><br>While searching a home in Buffalo, New York, the police discovered a 5-month old Pit Bull abandoned in a freezer. He had been left to die by his owner, and was nearly frozen to death. The police adopted the puppy, and named him Popsicle.<br><br>They put him to work as a customs dog, and, in spite of his past, he became the number one customs dog in America.<br><br>Recently, he was involved in the detection of a truck carrying 3,050 lbs of cocaine across the Mexican border in Hidalgo, Texas. The bust was the biggest in the town's history.",

"<b>Dog Trial.</b><br><br>After a few well known dog attacks in Britain, authorities passed the <em>Dangerous Dog Act of 1991</em>, which stated that certain dogs must be leashed and muzzled in public.<br><br>Dempsey, a Pit Bull,  was arrested after her owner removed the muzzle because she feared that Dempsey was going to get sick. After the arrest, Dempsey was sentenced to death. The owner appealed the sentence and the case became one of the most famous in British dog history. The case dragged on for 3 years, and actually reached the House of Lords. Luckily for Dempsey, the case was dismissed in 1995 on a technicality.",

"<b>Good Pit Bull, good.</b><br><br>Pit Bulls are often used as <em>search and rescue</em> dogs. One of the more famous is Dakota, owned by Kris Crawford.<br><br>Dakota has been involved in several high profile cases, including the Lacy Peterson case and NASA's search and rescue mission after the 2003 Space Shuttle Disaster. Recently she also helped to track down an elderly woman who had been lost.<br><br>Dakota's owner Kris has started an organization called <em>For Pit's Sake</em>, which tries to educate people about Pit Bulls and dispel some myths regarding their bad reputation.",

"<b>Dog Star.</b><br><br>Pete the Pup was one of Hollywood's first dog actors, and remains one of its most famous. <br><br>This lovable Pit Bull became famous on <em>The Little Rascals</em>, and actually became as well known as the human actors. His most famous characteristic was the circle around his eye, which was actually a real mark, but had to be completed and touched up by a make up artist.<br><br>He died in 1946 of natural causes, after a very productive career in Hollywood, starring in both shorts and feature films during the 1920's and 30's.",

"<b>Sergeant Stubby.</b><br><br>Sergeant Stubby was a highly decorated Pit Bull during the First World War and the only dog during the war promoted to Sergeant.<br><br>Stubby participated in some 17 battles during the war for the 102nd Infantry and the 26th Division. He warned his unit if there were gas attacks coming, located wounded soldiers, and even captured a German soldier all on his own! At the end of the war, Stubby had a chance to meet the President, Woodrow Wilson, and got to shake his hand.<br><br>Sergeant Stubby received numerous awards, including three service stripes, a retroactive purple heart, a World War I veterans’ medal, the French Battle of Verdun medal, and many other awards.",

"<b>PR Pit Bull.</b><br><br>The first dog in Alaska to become a certified hearing dog was a Pit Bull named RCA.<br><br>RCA moved from Alabama to Alaska at the age of 15 because her owners could not find a place where Pit Bulls were allowed. In Alaska, she began training as a hearing dog and was the first dog in Alaska to gain such an honor; an amazing accomplishment considering her age.<br><br>RCA also traveled around the country raising money and building awareness about the importance of these dogs. She also showed people that not all Pit Bulls are as bad as many think.",

"<b>What's in a name?</b><br><br>Pit bull is not a specific breed of dog, rather it is a term used to describe several different breeds with similar characteristics.<br><br>The American Pit Bull Terrier, Staffordshire Bull Terrier and the American Staffordshire Terrier are all considered Pit bulls, as well as several other, but lesser known dogs.<br><br>Pit bulls tend to be medium sized to large dogs, with muscular, almost body-builder like bodies. They tend to be courageous, loyal dogs, who have a nasty, albeit undeserved, reputation.",

"<b>We're in a dog fight.</b><br><br>Pit bulls were originally bred to be dog fighters.<br><br>Dog fighting has a long history, and has existed throughout various cultures. Different dog breeds were interbreed to form level headed and intelligent dogs, that performed well in dog fights, but were also non-aggressive towards humans.<br><br>For the dogs to be allowed to fight, it was required that a referee be able to pick up the dog and not be bitten. So they were bred to be quite vicious on the one hand, but affectionate and passive on the other.",

"<b>Innocent until proven guilty.</b><br><br>According to one report, Pit bulls were involved in 279 dog-attack fatalities in the US between 1979 and 1996, just over a fifth of all such fatalities.<br><br>This fact can be misleading however, since Pit bulls are not a specific breed, and the term encompasses several different breeds.<br><br>On the whole, each of these breeds are fairly comfortable and non-aggressive towards humans. And most dog attacks, can, at least to some extent, be attributed to irresponsible ownership and training.",

"<b>Lockjaw!</b><br><br>There are many myths surrounding the Pit bull, most of which are just that - myths.<br><br>One of the more prevalent is that Pit bulls have a locking jaw. That is, when they bite onto something, their jaws lock, and they cannot release.<br><br>Most dog specialist agree, that there is no basis for this theory. Biologically, Pit bulls are no different than any other dog of similar size."];
