Myotonic goats are known as fainting goats. When they become frightened or excited a genetic problem causes their legs to stiffen up. This causes them to fall over, making it look as if they have fainted.
In the past, shepherds often used these goats as a sort of insurance. If a predator attacked, the goat would become startled and 'faint.' Seeing an easy catch, the predator would focus on the goat and allow the sheep to get away.
